The R.L. Winston Rod Co. today announced the launch of its new website at www.winstonrods.com. Winston, one of the oldest companies in the flyfishing industry, has recently enjoyed tremendous success with its enormously popular series of Boron II fly rods. The new website makes it easy for customers to navigate through the Winston product line, understand the advantages of its new leading-technology Boron rods; as well as enjoy many multi-media features, such as short movies on the “Winston Channel,” an online flyfishing movie festival at FlyFishingMovies.com, and an extremely active forum where anglers can discuss Winston rods, flyfishing gear, flyfishing destinations, and all things Winston.
“The new site is another leap forward, taking advantage of newly available technologies, and yet has elegance and user interface that is also clearly a generation ahead,” says Winston owner David Ondaatje. But more importantly, the new Winston site is oriented around telling the new Winston story. “With the enormous success of our new Boron II series of rods,” Ondaatje points out, “we believe we are clearly the leading technical and innovative fly rod company in the industry. Over and over, we hear from our Dealers that it’s time we more effectively communicate to our customer base that these new Boron II fly rods are the most responsive, fast-action, lightweight, high-performance rods designed anywhere in the world. Winston’s reputation has evolved from being viewed largely as a quality leader of smooth-action trout rods to being a clear leader of high-performance fast-action, medium-action, and more traditional action rods across the entire spectrum of saltwater, two-handed, and trout fishing applications…and the new website helps our customers see that.”
One of the first in the industry to seize upon the educational and marketing power of the internet, Winston has viewed its website, www.winstonrods.com, as an opportunity to not only provide information about Winston fly rods, but also to entertain (movies: flyfishingmovies.com), to educate (casting and other instructional information, including movies), to interact (forum), to create (online flyfishing movie festival where contributors can win prizes) and in general to engage and build a relationship with anglers regardless of their affiliation with a particular product.
“The most important thing,” says Ondaatje, “is to cultivate and share our excitement about flyfishing. And, though our rods provide an important component of an angler’s enjoyment of the sport — from knowing they reflect the latest technology, to their precise performance characteristics, to their extraordinary beauty — it is really about something more. It is sharing our love of flyfishing and providing a place where anglers can go on a cold rainy day in the off-season, while sitting at their desks dreaming of being out on the flats or on the river. This is the goal of the new site…it goes beyond the brand of a fly rod that someone owns.”
In realizing the potential that an even more dynamic website experience could provide, Winston worked closely with Shine Advertising, of Madison, Wisconsin, to create the new site. Some of the many other exciting new features at www.winstonrods.com include product reviews and videos, extensive information about Winston’s Technical Advisors, Field Advisors and Pro Staff and enhanced accessibility to the broad network of authorized Winston Dealers.
For over 80 years, the R.L. Winston Rod Co. has had a single-minded focus on building the best fly rods in the world. And, with the new site, you can come see what we’ve been doing all these years…and maybe having a little fun doing it!
